LULU’S VINTAGE BLING HITS THE MAG MILE
March 2013 - as seen in Pure Wow Chicago, photo by Barry Brecheisen
Today, Laurie Davis–Chicago’s queen of vintage bling who dressed ten women for this year’s inaugural festivities in D.C.–adds her goods to the lineup. Presenting: LuLu’s on the Avenue, an accessories-focused outpost of her original boutique.
It’s fun to browse Davis’s retro party dresses (1920s through 1980s) at her North Center shop, but the gowns rarely fit modern bods. (Plus, we’re wary of Davis’s verbal hand-slaps when we reach out to touch.)
The new LuLu’s focuses on jewelry that looks gorgeous on everyone. Davis’s baubles from her secret sources are better quality than today’s mass-produced costume pieces, and the selection delves deeply into Art Deco (hot thanks to Downton Abbey and the upcoming Great Gatsby). There are also pieces by designer Larry Vrba–a Beyoncé and Victoria’s Secret favorite–and handbags by Laudi Vidni. (Jewelry starts at $150.)
